RESERACH PHASE

What Did We Learn?

As part of WP2, we conducted a comprehensive research process across Spain, Portugal and Italy to better understand how Artificial Intelligence is being used in youth work today.

Through surveys, interviews and focus groups, we gathered insights from youth workers, educators and young people to identify:

  • Current AI usage patterns

  • Opportunities and practical applications

  • Ethical concerns and risks

  • Skills gaps and training needs

The findings presented below directly inform the development of our AI Toolkit (WP3) and Training Programme (WP4).

RESERACH PHASE

Key Findings at a Glance

1. AI Usage in Youth Work

  • Most commonly used tools: [e.g., ChatGPT, Canva AI, educational platforms]

  • Main purposes: content creation, lesson planning, project management, communication

  • % of respondents who use AI regularly: [X%]

2. Opportunities Identified

  • Improved efficiency in project management

  • Personalised learning support

  • Better data analysis of youth trends

  • Increased engagement through digital tools

3. Risks and Ethical Concerns

  • Misinformation and critical thinking decline

  • Emotional dependency on AI systems

  • Deepfake and digital safety risks

  • Data privacy and GDPR compliance challenges

Unequal access to AI tools.

4. Skills Gap and Training Needs

  • Lack of practical AI knowledge

  • Need for ethical guidance

  • Desire for hands-on tools

  • Need for gender-sensitive digital safety approaches

The research confirms that AI is already embedded in youth work environments. However, ethical guidance, structured training and practical tools are urgently needed to ensure safe, inclusive and human-centred implementation.
